Remember "under construction" gifs? Back in the early days of the internet, they appeared on websites that were considered unfinished, to alert viewers that there were changes to come.

We don't use them anymore, but that's not because websites aren't under construction. The whole philosophy of web development has shifted. Whereas once, the idea was to design and develop a website to completion, now, we're more likely to use an iterative approach, recognizing that there's always something to improve. (On the Workshop website, for example, we just increased the number of stories that appear by default on the home page, and changed the mysterious round yellow button into a very clear "Load more" button. Progress!)

If there's one person who understands how web design has evolved over the years, it's Arianne Foulks of Aeolidia. She's been working in the field for more than 17 years, with a specialty in e-commerce. So we're thrilled to be hosting Arianne at our next virtual event on April 28. Join us for a live review of a selection of member websites packed with actionable and completely doable tips to help anyone improve their ecommerce experience. (Submit your site if you'd like to be considered for a live review.) You’ll come away from the event with an understanding of common mistakes many people make, and a checklist on how to boost the power of your own website to sell.

As always, we love to hear from you — hit reply to let us know how things are going and what topics you might like us to cover in the coming months.

Yours in making,

Co-founders Corinna vanGerwen and Kat Tancock
