Confession time: We don't actually have a business plan. We have chunks of one: competitor research, a social media strategy, revenue planning and other documents we put together last year when we started creating Workshop. But we've never combined it all in one place, or gone through a business plan checklist to make sure we've covered all our bases.

So when we thought of publishing a story on business plans, there was a bit of self-interest involved. One perk of this profession is being able to interview knowledgeable people on topics that interest you, and we were eager to chat with several experts on how and why to create a business plan. Consider us convinced: We've got a business plan template downloaded and ready to go. Scroll down to find out what we learned, and to read another expert's advice on planning for business emergencies.

In other news, it's the middle of summer (already?!), and the Workshop team is taking some time off over the next couple of weeks, so there will be a slight delay before you hear from us again. Watch for our next newsletter on August 11.

Yours in making,

Co-founders Corinna vanGerwen and Kat Tancock
